The Nords are a brutal and powerful race, and the raw power of this warrior race shows in their favored skills and Racial Power. Not only does their Racial Power, Battle Cry, cause all nearby enemies to flee for 30 seconds, but their favored skills in Two-Handed, One-Handed, Block, Speech, Light Armor and Smithing make them exceptionally powerful on the battlefield.

The fearsome Orc tribes that roam the land of Tamriel are known for their defensive warrior capabilities. This class is perfect for those who want to be able to take a beating in battle and still keep fighting. With favored skills like Heavy Armor, One-Handed, Two-Handed, Enchanting and Smithing, this race is perfect for providing a solid defense against any enemy.

Their Racial Power, Berserk, allows them to inflict double damage in melee combat, while only taking half damage for 60 seconds. Often heralded as the most naturally talented warriors in all of Tamriel, this race has favored skills in One-Handed, Archery, Block, Smithing, Alteration and Destruction. Their Racial Power, Adrenaline Rush, allows them to regenerate Stamina 10X faster for 60 seconds, which makes them an almost unstoppable force on the battlefield.

This race is perfect for those looking to make their living as a Spellsword, or as a duel-wielding warrior. Built for Archery, this race of elves is known for their ability to command animals using their Racial Power, Command Animal.

However, not being able to see in the dark is usually a non-issue, and most players choose to surmount that obstacle with their gamma settings if it's a problem. They also get a bonus to unarmed damage, which isn't particularly useful outside of specific challenge runs or role playing.

The Imperial is the average Joe of the Elder Scrolls universe. They're your regular, basic humans. They're not particularly bad at anything, but neither are they remarkable in any way. The iteration seen in Skyrim strays no great distance from this established role.

Their starting skills are geared towards your average sword-and-board warrior, with boosts to Heavy Armor, Block and One-Handed.

They get a small bonus that boosts the amount of gold they find, and their Voice of the Emperor power calms nearby humanoid combatants for a minute, allowing a reprieve from combat.

It's not a bad power to have, but you'll eventually forget that it's there. If you're looking to get stuck in with melee combat, then you can't go wrong with an orc. They're famed craftsmen and mighty warriors, and this is reflected in their skillset.

They get bonuses to both smithing and enchanting, allowing them to handily DIY their equipment, as well as bonuses to practically every skill involved in melee combat. Their power is among the more useful ones, though painfully limited to one use per day. It's called Berserker Rage, and it reduces damage taken by the Orc for sixty seconds, while also effectively doubling the damage they're dealing during that time. The Redguard's starting skills are a bit all over the map, but they focus on one handed weapons and blocking, gearing them towards sword-and-board fighting.

However, their racial abilities are what really pull them together as a considerable option. Their Adrenaline Rush ability will cause them to regenerate stamina ten times faster for sixty seconds, allowing the player to recklessly spam flurries and power attacks, which is always a good time. They also get a hefty bonus to poison resistance, which is never a bad thing.

Unsurprisingly, you're going to meet a lot of Nords in Skyrim, because Skyrim is Their starting skills are a mixed bag, but provide a sound basis for pretty much any sort of melee fighter you might want to play.

A little bonus to Heavy Armor wouldn't have hurt them, though. Their racial abilities are very sound, all things considered.
