Body Pump is often done in classes of 30, 45, and 55 minutes. It consists of barbell exercises with light weights and many reps, with the fun addition of great music to jam out to. Due to the high concentration of reps, Body Pump really pushes your muscles to the max.
You can expect to do multiple reps of chest presses, squats, dead rows, lunges, and curls. Although weights are not required for every exercise, they are often used. Because of this, it is only recommended to do Body Pump two to three times a week in order to ensure that you do not hurt yourself.
Just like you would not want to lift weights every day, you do not want to do Body Pump every day. The goal of Body Pump is to work up to being able to do total reps throughout the workout.
If you are a beginner, you should start small and work your way up to doing reps over a couple of months. If you move too quickly, you will get hurt. Not only did I miss out on the physical benefits of BodyPump, I really missed out on what it did for me mentally.

One of the researchers said that she often saw poor form, especially among newcomers, and that the instructors rarely took the time to correct the individuals who were losing focus. The BODYPUMP study As a fitness writer, I rarely have the opportunity to present a study that fits exactly what I am writing about, but this is one of those rare occasions where someone went out and did my work for me.

Taking any class like this is definitely a good way to get introduced to a variety of resistance training exercises, especially if you opt to take the minute introductory technique class.
And I definitely suggest you do that! I don't know about you but I would find it hard to estimate how heavy my SmartBar needs to be to lift to failure in a class that is reps long. Unless you have the focus and attention span of a ninja, doing repetitions of anything is going to lead to sloppy form, and sloppy form leads to injury.
